New Idea
Find some jams with a time length that matches an obtainable PR for certain race distances. Race to finish the distance before the end of the jam.
Distances of 5k, 4 miles and 10k.
Looking for jams lasting 21 minutes, 27 minutes and 43 minutes.
Ideally something with sustained intensity with a nice peak close to the finish.
There must be a nice Scarlet->Fire or China->Rider out...

A strong 15 in the park →
Ideal weather for a long run. Weird splits. Hills, I guess. Not sure I can explain miles 8 and 9…
Zensah
Just put on a Zensah thigh compression sleeve. Feels kind of nice. I wonder how long I am supposed to keep this thing on.

So, they didn’t cancel the race, but it was an unscored (read: no official time) race.
I very seriously considered staying in bed when the alarm went off. Instead I made it out to slosh around central park a couple of times.
The snow changed over the run. At times the wind was sharp and so was the snow. The fluffy flakes were much easier on the face. I had to unglove my hand to clear...
Wildfire Extra Pale Ale →
I had this beer last night (draft not bottle).
Perfect level of hoppiness for me. Very tasty. Light to medium. Great session beer.
Strange that it comes from a brewery in Utah.
Seek it out!

Garmin time is 43:47. 20 seconds shy of a PR.
We shall see what NYRR clocks me in at.
Sixth mile at a 6:44 pace. Niiiiiice.
First race of 2012 on the books.
Despite the beautiful weather, pretty somber mood in Central Park.
Only heard one cowbell and one course marshall cheering.
Other than someone yapping over the PA towards the finish.

First Run of 2012 →
Windy, very windy. And crisp.
Feeling good about Saturday’s 10K. Potentially PR-able.

Why you need to run slower when building your... →
runningtipstoday:
I have been asked many times this fall and winter “WHY do I need to run 60-90 seconds slower than my race pace for the long training runs on Saturday or Sunday?” The answer is that we are training your body to support you for 26.2 miles and we need it to adapt to provide you with the right strength and energy through the entire event. Speed work is where the body, through...

Marathon Number 2 in the Dirty Jerz
After intense negotiations with my left knee and IT band.
It is ON. Just registered for the New Jersey Marathon!
May 6, 2012.
Now, to find a training plan…I am thinking a 12 weeker…
Number 3 will be NYC 2012, 6 months later.

Great race. Fastest pace for a race longer than 10k.
1:08:09, 7:20 minute miles. Overall place 440/4287.
Technical difficulties with Garmin at start, but its pretty close.

Post-race Blues
Have me seriously considering an April/May marathon.
Do I really want to run a marathon in Provo, UT? Cincinnati? Big Sur? Pittsburgh?
Pace Bands
I have three.
They tell me what the time clock should say at miles 1-26 for a given finish time.
3:30, 3:40 or 3:50.
I think I am going to rock the 3:40 band.
That is all.
Huge.
It’s important to not take any bullshit, either go whole hog or not go at all....

LOVE IT
Mostly sunny. High of 54, low of 47.
Still a little far out, but maybe the forecast will hold.
